Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall

This hall was originally the Puming Miaojue Hall. On March 12, 1925, Dr. Sun Yat-sen passed away in Beijing, and his body lay in state temporarily in the Vajra Throne Pagoda at the highest point of Biyun Temple. Four years later, when Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s coffin was transported to Purple Mountain in Nanjing, this hall was used as a mourning site, where a solemn public memorial and mourning ceremony were held. Subsequently, it was designated as the “Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall” for public reverence. The plaque hanging on the lintel bears the six characters “孙中山纪念堂” (Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall) inscribed by Soong Ching-ling herself.
